The Bruce Nuclear Power Station, at the time of completion, was the largest nuclear power plant in the world, producing 6,400 MW of power per day with 8 reactors. Plans are underway to expand the plant by another 4800 MW. In addition to power generation, the Bruce facility produces the majority of the world’s supply of Cobalt 90, a critical radioactive isotope of Cobalt used in the treatment of specific cancers.
A plant tour of the facility is planned for Tuesday, September 29 at 10:00 am. The tour will consist of a classroom information session and a guided bus drive around the plant site. The plant is located in the Tiverton/ Kincardine area, approximately a two hour drive from Collingwood.
Following the tour which should end by 12:30, you can plan to have an optional lunch at The Walker House Restaurant, 146 High Street, Southampton, ON. The meal will be ordered from the menu and you pay the restaurant directly. To ensure your reservation, please indicate if you plan to have lunch at the restaurant when registering.
Registration opens Aug 12 and closes Aug 30. We will initially plan for 20 members. Please reserve by Sunday, Aug 30 to allow us to firm up the spaces available at Bruce. There is no charge for the Nuclear Plant tour. If the event is full, add your name to the waitlist to enable us to make future arrangements for the overload.
